Leading visual effects studio Scanline VFX just shared a great VFX fan coil with AWN showcasing their work on Marvel Studios’ latest MCU action adventure, Black Widow.
Black Widow explores the evolution of the eponymous character, also known as Natasha Romanoff. Following the events of Captain America: Civil War (2016), Romanoff finds herself alone and forced to confront a dangerous conspiracy linked to her past. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, she must face her spy story and the broken relationships left in its wake long before she becomes an Avenger.
Scanline made 163 shots through 4 sequences for the film, the majority taking place on the bridge, the setting of Romanoff’s fight with Taskmaster. Work on the footage involved the car exploding and rolling across the bridge, coupled with destruction and FX simulation work for details such as shattered glass, fire, sparks, muzzle flash, dust and waste. Scanline extended the bridge environment in CG, simulating the river below, and used a digi-double for Black Widow as she leaps from the bridge into the water below.
Smaller sequences included the Budapest car chase which involved CG window reflection replacements, street / signage cleaning replacements and the Sæbø safe house sequence where Scanline extended the trailer environment.
