Renowned writer / artist Tillie Walden is taking over the The Walking Dead comic book franchise for a series of original graphic novels centered around the popular teenage character Clementine from the hit video game Telltale’s The Walking Dead. Although Clementine has never appeared in The Walking Dead comics before, she will make her official comic book debut in the July 7 Skybound X # 1 anthology.

“To start with a character like Clementine is both a huge responsibility and a joy,” Walden said in the Skybound Entertainment announcement. “Clementine is a person who takes adventure with her wherever she goes, and the more I thought about it the more I wanted to take her beyond the world of games, to a new and exciting place (like the top of a mountain!) “She is a force and drawing and writing her story has been one of the best experiences of my life as a designer.”

Walden’s Clementine OGN series will pick up after the events of the game, as she hits the road again in an attempt to carve out a life for herself. Over the course of the series, Clementine and a new character, an Amish teenager named Amos, will travel to Vermont and find a community of teenagers settled in an abandoned ski report.

Clementine Book One will go on sale in July 2022, with the intention of being the first in a trilogy.

Walden’s Clementine is part of a new young adult / mid-level imprint from Skybound Entertainment called Skybound Comet. Other projects include:

  • Daily Hero Machine Boy Tri Vuong and Irma Kniivila OGN (September 2022)
  • The Heir of the Sea Serpent, Volume 1 (of three) OGN by Mairghread Scott and Pablo Tunica (October 2022)

Skybound’s goal has always been to create the best comics that bring new readers to the medium we love so much, and Skybound Comet is the next step in that mission, ”said the editor / senior vice president of Skybound, Sean Mackiewicz. “We will not only explore pop culture phenomena like The Walking Dead from a whole new perspective, but we will also bring you entirely new worlds and new characters that we know will captivate the hearts of readers of all ages.”

Skybound editor-in-chief Alex Antone adds to that, saying these three are “just the start of our long-term graphic novel program.”

Skybound comics are published via Image Comics.
