The Bookseller – Rights – Daphne Press picks up ‘incredible’ martial arts fantasy series from Chu

Daphne Press has picked up Wesley Chu’s The War Arts Saga, an “epic” fantasy series starting with The art of prophecy.

Publisher Daphne Tonge has acquired the UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Rachel Kind of Penguin Random House US. The art of prophecy will be released as an e-book in November 2022, and the hardcover will follow in April 2023. The novel was released in August 2022 in the United States.

The series is an “ode to martial arts and magic”, examining what happens when the prophesied hero is the wrong person and must work with a group of unlikely allies to save the kingdom.

Tonge said, “I cannot express how excited I am to release The War Arts Saga. The book is so brilliant and entertaining and such an amazing story. It was an absolute dream to acquire The art of prophecy for Daphne Press.

Chu commented: “The art of prophecy is the epic fantasy I’ve dreamed of writing ever since I read my first novel as an immigrant child. Stories were how I learned English, and those old martial arts movies were how I discovered my culture. I have always aspired to marry these two important influences in my storytelling. I can’t wait for readers to enter the world of The War Arts Saga and fight alongside Taishi, Jian, Salminde and Qisami as they struggle with shifting loyalties, shattered fates and what it really means to have the free. arbitrator. While having a good time. Daphne Press is the perfect home for this world filled with shifting cities, magical fighting styles, and ragtag characters. Daphne’s work at Illumicrate has always been brilliant and inspiring. I am so excited to see how she will unleash the arts of war saga to the rest of the world.
