ROUND-UP: Here are all the big news from Virtual Crunchyroll Expo 2021

Did you have a chance to watch some of the stage feeds while they were live during Virtual Crunchyroll Expo 2021? Whether you’ve been there for it all or spent some time catching up on VOD, we’ve got a handy list of all the major announcements that have been made over the weekend.

The opening ceremonies are always a great occasion, but how many in the world history can you name this star legendary horror manga writer Junji Ito’s debut as VTuber? None, we say! Fortunately, you can watch and review both the opening itself and the isolated moment when history was made.

For those who love anime and video games, Crunchyroll too announced a partnership with Microsoft which offers three months of Xbox Game Pass for PC to subscribers.

It wouldn’t be an exhibition without a Crunchyroll Industry Panel, and this one was chock full of seasonal announcements. Among the upcoming anime there are video game adaptation likes Muv-Luv Alternative, adaptations of light novel series The Distant Paladin, The strongest sage with the weakest crest, and Skeleton knight in another world, and manga adaptation Harem at the end of the world.

As you may have read, Crunchyroll and Adult Swim also have the BLADE RUNNER: LOTUS BLACK animated series on the way, with the subtitled version coming to Crunchyroll and the English dubbed version to air on Toonami’s Adult Swim block. During the series’ V-CRX panel, Crunchyroll’s Head of Development Sarah Victor spoke with directors Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama, discussing their creative process, how LOTUS BLACK fits into the Blade runner universe, and more, and one new visual was presented with an overview of the opening.

As if that weren’t enough, we learned more about EAST anime adaptation – based on the Bessatsu Shônen Magazine manga Magi author Shinobu Ohtaka, due for release in 2022. There is also a new visual for the SAKUGAN animated, More details on Love to kill, and the first trailer for Crunchyroll Original Elevated Guardian Spice.

Beyond the on-screen anime, Crunchyroll is bringing it to bookstores with the new book Essential anime, written by Patrick Macias and Samuel Sattin. You can see the cover here!

Speaking of other types of media, KADOKAWA held a panel during V-CRX with TheAnimeMan as MC, in which the publisher revealed big plans for the distribution of manga and light novels. Read our full story to see how things are going and which titles will be the first to come out via the new, faster distribution methods.

Finally, we had a big surprise during the Crunchyroll Games panel at V-CRX. A special teaser debuted for Mitrasphere, in which the addition of none other than Crunchyroll-Hime has been revealed.
