Today Netflix announced the start date for the upcoming animated film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.

The film will be available on the popular streaming service on August 23, 2021.

It focuses on the origin story of Geralt de Rivia’s mentor and friend, Vesemir.

It is directed by Kwang Il Han, produced by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and written by Beau DeMayo. The animation is from South Korean studio Mir, known for The Legend of Korra, Voltron: Legendary Defender, Dota: Dragon’s Blood, and more.

Below, you can read a brief official description of Netflix itself.

“The world of ‘The Witcher’ expands in this 2D animated film that explores a powerful new threat to the continent. “

Keep in mind that despite the text above, this is actually not an “anime” movie, there is no Japanese implication in it. Netflix just recently used the well-known term “anime” as a keyword to popularize cartoons from other parts of the world.

During the same event, we learned that Season 2 of the series would premiere on December 17th, saw its first trailer, and took a look at a new figure inspired by Cavill’s likeness.

Speaking on the gaming side, we’ve learned that the series-inspired free DLC will be released for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by CD Projekt RED at some point in the future, with more to be revealed later.

If you want to know more about the game, you can read our review. The game is currently available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Upgraded versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X | S will arrive later this year with free upgrades for those who already own the game. The PC version will also be updated.
