Kevin Conroy is back for Batman: The Animated Series follow-up, and fans should be pumped

Batman: The Animated Series comes across as one of the most beloved superhero TV shows, and the original voice actors are iconic for their roles. The stars have appeared in other DC animation projects over the past three decades, and now devoted fans’ wish for a comeback is coming true. A sequel to the beloved series is in the works along with the original BTAS voice actor Kevin Conroy on board.

According to THR, the original Batman series Kevin Conroy and Riddler voice actor John Glover broke the big news at Los Angeles Comic Con. The Batman: The Animated Series the follow-up will be a podcast, not another animated series as many fans had hoped. With the return of Conroy and Glover, the original BTAS writer Alan Burnett is currently developing and writing the audio suite. Conroy was excited about the progress saying:

It’s a great script by Alan Burnett and it brings back the original cast.

Kevin Conroy seemed just as excited for the return of the original cast as OG fans will be. LA Comic Con was filled with more exciting news as Conroy revealed that original theme songwriter Danny Elfman is returning as well. So it looks like viewers will be able to relive the series with familiar voices and other aspects of the original series.

The BTAS the audio drama will have some competition with other Gotham City podcasts. There’s the HBO Max podcast Batman: Audio Adventures with The batmanJeffrey Wright voicing the Caped Crusader. Spotify launches podcast Batman not buried with Black Panther‘s Winston Duke as the Dark Knight. At least the BTAS the follow-up has the nostalgia factor on its side with the original voice actors attached.

While the podcast has just entered development, it wouldn’t be the first series to tap into the Batman: The Animated Series heritage. BTAS creator Bruce Timm is currently working with JJ Abrams and The batman director Matt Reeves to develop the new animated series Batman: Crusader in a Cloak. The animated series has been described as a “reimagining” of the DC superhero, much like the animated series of the 1990s. So Batman will once again rule the world of television.

These projects are just the tip of the Batman media blitz about to unfold. Of course there is Matt Reeves’ The batman, which will be released on March 4, 2022. Several Batman-focused projects are in the works or in the making, including Bat girl and one Gotham City PD TV shows. 1990s Batman movie star Michael Keaton as well as Ben Affleck will appear in Flash, which arrives on November 4, 2022. The next few years will bring the Dark Knight the most visibility viewers have seen since the 1990s.

We don’t know if there are others BTAS voice veterans like Mark Hamill and Adrienne Barbeau will return for the podcast series. As more information about the audio series is released, check back with CinemaBlend for the latest developments.
