How to control ASUS ZenFone 9 user interface animations

The ASUS ZenFone 9 comes with Android 12 and, in addition, the ASUS ZenUI skin. ZenUI has evolved over the years, and it’s now one of Android’s most compelling iterations. It’s basically stock Android with a number of useful tweaks and features added. ZenUI lets you tweak various things, and UI animations are one of them. In this article, we’ll show you how to control UI animations on the ZenFone 9, whether you want to speed them up, slow them down, or remove them altogether.

Animation control settings are available on pretty much every Android smartphone, but they are not readily available. First, you need to enable developer options, then you can explore them and find these settings. ASUS decided to make these settings readily available, never enabling Developer Settings. We’ll show you how to access and change these settings in this article. Below is a step-by-step guide along with corresponding screenshots.

How to Control UI Animations on ZenFone 9

The first thing you will need to do is access the “Settings” of the phone. There are many ways you can do this, but we’ll do it in the most obvious way, for the purposes of this tutorial. Go to your phone’s home screen and swipe up to access your app drawer. Once you are there, locate the “Settings” app icon and tap on it.

In this menu you will find three different options. The first is “window animation scale”, the second is “transition animation scale”, and the third is “animator duration scale”. Each of them is pretty self-explanatory and you can either slow down, speed up or disable these animations. If you want to disable them, just tap on a particular option and set it to “Animation”. If you want to speed it up or slow it down, choose one of the other options. The higher the number, the slower the animation will be.

As you can see I have mine set to 0.5x which works best for me. I usually do this on all my phones. Asus warns you that changing the animation speed may have “unintended effects depending on the application”. True, but very rare. You can see a bit of craziness when it comes to some apps, but frankly, I haven’t had a problem with it in years. Feel free to play around with these, you can always change the settings, if you want. Note that the default setting is 1x for all three options. And yes, you can mix and match. Try it out and see which settings work best for you.
