DISNEY+ SWOOPS ON ‘RALPH & KATIE’

Keshet International (KI) has reached a major multi-territory deal with Disney+ on “Ralph & Katie,” the new 6×30′ comedy-drama spinoff of “The A World.” The sale is part of a wider deal which includes all three seasons of BBC One drama ‘The A Word’. Disney+ has licensed multiple rights for both titles throughout Europe (excluding the UK), the Middle East and Africa.

“The A Word” will be available on Disney+ in the Nordic countries and in Belgium. Launches are also planned for Portugal, Italy, Spain and France from November, then Germany, Austria and Switzerland in the new year. “Ralph & Katie” will debut in early 2023.

KI returns to Cannes with its largest delegation since 2019. New titles include the biopic miniseries “Cuba Libre”, “Summer of Sorrow” and “Too Much Love”.

CINEFLIX PRESELVES “LAST KING”

Cineflix Rights has pre-sold Helium’s ten-episode Australian crime drama “Last King of The Cross” to Sky. Featuring Tim Roththe series will air exclusively in all Sky territories in Italy, the UK, Ireland and Germany, the company announced.

Inspired by by John Ibrahim bestselling autobiography, which follows his rise from a poor immigrant to the kingpin of an Australian nightclub, “Last King of The Cross” tells the story of two brothers who are lost in their rise to power.

Set in Sydney’s Kings Cross in the 1980s and 1990s, the cast includes Lincoln Younes (“Grand Hotel”, “Tangle”), Claude Jabbour (“Eden”, “Stateless”), and Callan Mulvey (“300: Birth of an Empire”). Cineflix Rights is the exclusive international distribution partner.

ACQUISITION OF RIGHTS

Atresmedia Televisión has acquired the rights to the guessing game show “Password” from Mipcom. The new adaptation of the format will be produced locally by Fremantle Spain. The format is a highlight in Fremantle’s entertainment slate on the market.

“Password” has already been revived in the United States by NBC, featuring jimmy fallon and hosted by Keke Palmer. The refreshed series launched as the most-watched new unscripted series premiere of the summer, on US broadcast networks.

STEVE JONES GOES BEYOND

Seasoned TV frame Steve Jones joined Beyond rights‘ London-based team to fill the newly created role, as SVP of Development. Its mandate is to develop original ideas for documented and popular factual series that meet market demand. Jones has worked in the UK and Australia in a range of senior roles, including editor and executive producer, entertainment and factual, at Sky 1; executive producer, factual and factual entertainment at Discovery Networks Europe; director of development and series producer at CJZ Productions; and executive producer and head of development at Endemol Southern Star. He also co-founded Big Little Fish Television in 2019, the British indie he co-directed for over two years.

BACK IN SPACE

australia SLR productions announced the production of the second season of the award-winning original CGI animated series, “Space Nova” for ABC ME. The 15 x 22 minute season received major production funding from both Australia Screen and the Australian Children’s Television Foundation as well as funding for the development of ABC ME and Create NSW. “Space Nova” will be co-produced with funny garage in Malaysia and distributed internationally by ZDF Studios, with ACTF representing the series across Australia and New Zealand. Targeting a global audience of six to ten years old, the first season was sold to broadcasters or streamers in Germany, UK, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Poland, USA, Singapore , East Asia, Indonesia and Brazil.

THE LION’S LAST ROAR

Zee MoreIndia’s co-production and development arm Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., announced “The Lion’s Last Roar», like his last co-production with the British Black-smith. The series, which will be distributed internationally by FTV, is currently in production and will be available in March 2023. The two-part premium documentary is filmed in 4K and explores the subject of lion conservation. India is the only country outside of Africa where lions live in the wild, but their numbers have plummeted. Zee Plus and Talesmith previously teamed up on “Life of Earth: From Space” and “Life of Earth: The Age of Humans”, for Zee Entertainment and Smithsonian Networks.

SEX TRAFFICKING

The new abolitionists,» a documentary film by Christina Zorich, will kick off its Oscar qualifying tour on Friday at the Laemmle Monica Film Center in Santa Monica. The film traces Zorich’s journey as she follows committed abolitionists, Christian ministries and NGOs, across Southeast Asia as they attempt to end human sex trafficking in Cambodia and Thailand. . The film is presented as part of “Kat Kramer’s Films That Change The World”, a selection of films and documentaries that raise awareness of important social issues, founded by Catherine Kramer.

Finalists from both pitches will be able to pitch their ideas to industry veterans at ATF (December 7-9, 2022) at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Center as part of the Singapore Media Festival (SMF) hosted by the Infocomm Media Development Authority. The market has already announced other pitch sessions focusing on animation, formats, Chinese content and an IP accelerator.
