Bleach, Demon Slayer host Yoshitaka Kohno has died

Animator Yoshitaka Kohno, who has worked on popular cartoons such as Bleach and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaibadied October 13.

As reported by Anime News Network, Kohno’s colleague Makoto Tamaru shared the news on Twitter. Tamaru noted that Kohno was a good and kind person and even though their relationship was not deep, he prays for his colleague to rest in peace.

Kohno appeared to struggle with his health

It is unclear what led to Kohno’s untimely death. However, his Twitter feed paints a picture showing that the host was not in good health. A month before his death, he posted a tweet showing an injury he suffered during a seizure, saying it “finally healed”. He shared pictures of him in the hospital preparing for surgery in early March. In response to a concerned fan, Kohno explained that he checked into the hospital for cardiology and orthopedics. Her fan responded, noting that the circulatory system affects the organs and encouraged Kohno to “take care of yourself.” On the same day Kohno revealed he was in the hospital, he shared a photo of himself lying in a hospital bed after the operation with an Intermittent Pneumatic Compression (IPC) machine on his legs. Sometimes called a compression boot or sleeve, the IPC device maintains blood circulation and helps prevent blood clots and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). It seems he was also hospitalized end of 2021.

Kohno’s Twitter account doesn’t reveal much about the enigmatic host. However, it seems that he was a fan of food and nature. His posts include pictures of flowers or different meals and snacks he has enjoyed.

Kohno graduated from Miyajima Technical High School, located in Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima. He will work in several animation studios, including Ashi Productions, AIC and ufotable. Kohno has held various roles in the industry, including Animation Director, Key Animator, Intermediate Animation, Planning, and Character Design.

As animation director, he worked on Bleach the Movie: Nobody’s Memories, The daily life of high school students (episode 10), Shangri La (episodes 4, 11), Super Robot Wars OG: The Inspector (episode 10) and Tenchi Muyo! GxP (episodes 1, 26). In Key Animation, his notable works include Ah! My Goddess (episodes 7, 10), Bleach, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (episodes 2-3, 6-7), Gundam Reconguista in Sol (episode 16), Hellsing (episode 1), IDOLiSH7 (episode 7) and Ouran High School Host Club (episode 26). As for In-Between Animation, Kohno worked on Fairy Princess Minky Momo: The Round in My Dream (OVA). Anime fans can find Kohno’s contributions as a character designer in magic canan, Magical Girl Pretty Sammy (OVA) (#1, 2, 3) and House of 100 Languages ​​(OAV).
