The death of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) turned out to be one of the biggest developments in Avengers: Endgame, giving the character who kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe and completing the Infinity saga. With Marvel What if…?, it becomes clear that Tony’s fate prevails in almost every corner of the multiverse. Of course, it’s a little less epic in many of the alternate universes featured.
Apparently the writers hadn’t planned on killing Tony so much for What if…? However, he’s starting to feel like a character from another popular animated series.

There is only one episode left of What if…? Season 1, which made sort of a running joke about Tony Stark’s untimely deaths. While the MCU gave him the chance to sacrifice himself for the greater good, most of his deaths in What if…? were disappointing. A lot also happened before he really found his rhythm as Iron Man.
While What if…? Episode 3, Tony was a victim of Hank Pym’s crusade against the Avengers. He also perished at the hands of Killmonger in Episode 6 and Ultron in Episode 8. In addition to these surprising twists and turns, the animated series showed Tony’s death from Avengers: Endgame. And fans know he’s “dead” for What if…?the zombie episode of, to then become one of the undead monsters himself.
Seeing Tony perish so many times in the animated series has a lot of Marvel fans in their feelings. Apparently the writers weren’t even planning on making a gag about it – it sort of worked out that way.
AC Bradley compared Tony to Kenny from ‘South Park’

When it comes to Tony’s death, What if…? writer AC Bradley made a hilarious comparison to another well-known cartoon character.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she commented on Twitter responses to Tony’s murder. She compared him to Kenny’s South Park, who got killed in almost every episode.
According to Bradley, the creators of the Marvel animated series did not intentionally turn Tony into What if…?it’s Kenny. However, they seem to have done it anyway.
“I noticed on Twitter that we get a lot of bullshit for killing a lot of Tony,” she said. “He became the Kenny of What if…? universe by accident.

The What if…? the writers had no intention of Tony dying in so many episodes, but they could make it a lore of the show going forward. The animated series has already been renewed for Season 2, so there are plenty of opportunities to feature more surprising Tony deaths – although some fans may not be thrilled.
Bradley mentioned to EW that the 10th episode of Season 1 – which was pushed to What if…?The second season of – is “a lighter, more upbeat Tony Stark episode”.
It looks like Tony could do better in future episodes of the animated series. However, the What if…? writers might choose to operate with the model they inadvertently created.
