But when his father, â’Mr. Nancy “dies, Charlie finds out that his father was Anansi: Rogue God of Stories. And he learns that he has a brother. Now his brother, Spider, enters Charlie’s life, determined to make it more interesting but much more. dangerous.
Gaiman, Sir Lenny Henry, Douglas Mackinnon, Hanelle M. Culpepper, Hilary Bevan Jones (Endor Productions) and Richard Fee (Red Production Company) will be executive producers. Gaiman and Henry will also write for the series with Arvind Ethan David, Kara Smith and Racheal Ofori. Gaiman and Mackinnon will serve as co-showrunners. Culpepper (Star Trek: Picard, Memories of Ptolemy Gray) will lead the pilot. Jerome Julien (Grantchester) and Azhur Saleem (Doctor Who) are also directing the series. Paul Frift will produce.
While this is not a sequel or spin-off of Gaiman’s previous novel and the Starz series, American gods, Anansi boys introduces the character of Mr. Nancy, who appears in both books. According to Gaiman, âAnansi boys started around 1996, from a conversation I had with Lenny Henry about writing a diverse story and being part of the culture we both loved. I wrote a novel, a (I hope) happy and funny book about a dead god and his two sons, about birds and ghosts and beasts and cops, based on West Indian and African tales. It was my first NYT bestseller, and it has become a popular and award-winning book.
He continued: âI’m delighted that Sir Lenny Henry is one of our executive producers. He was there when it was conceived, he told the audiobook and he kept the heart of the production true.
âI have been a huge fan (and a sleeping friend on the couch) of Neil Gaiman for over 30 years and loved being a part of the Anansi boys creative team, âsaid Henry. “I love that we have a diverse enough cast and crew to tell this happy story!” What’s great is that the whole production listens and makes sure that inclusion happens and is seen to be done. “
âNo one can weave a story of fantasy, humor and deep emotion like Neil Gaiman, and ‘Anansi Boys’ is a funny, weird and wonderful ride,â said Vernon Sanders, co-director of television for Amazon Studios. “We are very pleased that Neil, Lenny and Douglas are bringing their vision of Anansi Boys to the screen for our Prime Video customers around the world.”
The show is produced by Amazon Studios, The Blank Corporation, Endor Productions, and Red Production Company. No release date has been set.
